Akira Funahashi received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Keio University, Japan, in 1995, 1997, and 2000, respectively. He was a Research Fellow with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (DC1) from 1997 to 2000 and a Research Associate with the Department of Information Technology, Mie University, Japan, from 2000 to 2002. He then joined the Kitano Symbiotic Systems Project, JST, and The Systems Biology Institute as a Researcher before joining Keio University in 2007. His research interests include the areas of systems biology, quantitative biology, computational biology, interconnection networks, and parallel processing.
